The readers will begin with those soldiers who served in World War II.
Memorial Day events are planned around Douglas County in honor of veterans this weekend.
10 a.m.: Memorial Day parade hosted by the Combined Veterans of Riverhead. The first large observance was held in 1868 at Arlington National Cemetery.
Across the Napa Valley, the Memorial Day weekend will be the occasion for ceremonies honoring America's service members and war dead. That ceremony is at 11:45 a.m. Donations will be accepted. The parade will step off at 1 p.m.
The VFW and Post 95 will next head to the Intervale cemetery on Route 16-A, then travel back to Glen, with a short procession to the cemetery, followed by a trip to Bartlett Village, with a procession at 11:30 a.m. from near the ballfield to Fred Hodgkins Veterans Park at the Josiah Bartlett Elementary School. It will proceed through town to Highland Cemetery where the ceremony will start.
The parade will return to Legion Hall via Main Street and Beach Streets.
HOLYOKE- Parade at 9 a.m. from the War Memorial at 310 Appleton St.to Veterans' Park at Hampden and Maple streets for ceremony.
Parade and service: Noon. Schools, banks, post offices and government offices will be closed Monday.
The ceremony begins at 11 a.m.at Fairview. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will commence at 10:00 am at the American Legion Post 452. Veterans needing a ride are to meet at the Post at 9:30 a.m. Veterans Day, on the other hand, is specifically meant to honor living veterans, whether during war or peacetime.
Members of the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435 host a 9 a.m. service at Calvary Cemetery along Highway 105, two miles west of Superior; and a program at Greenwood Cemetery, 8402 Tower Ave.
The event takes place at the Rural Cemetery on Cordaville Road. Mayor Alan Galbraith is the keynote speaker, and a letter from U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson will be read.
The Memorial Day parade kicks off at 9 a.m. Monday, followed by the ceremony immediately afterward at approximately 10 a.m.at the Piqua Veteran's Memorial at the corner of Washington Avenue and Broadway in Piqua. Local veterans organizations will be participating with their color guards.
Drum majors for the High School Band will be Miles Bryan, Katie Favaloro and Eva Maria Rudier and drum captain is Jasper Williamson. The Three Volley Salute will be conducted by the Lake County Detachment 801 of the Marine Corps League.
The American Legion Glen Hill Post #287 in Cedar Springs will hold their annual Memorial Day program on Monday, May 29.
