Showing their support to the DC movie, Azrieli Towers - the country's tallest skyscrapers, lit up with the phrases "We are proud of you, Gal Gadot" and "Our Wonder Woman".

As a child, she was inspired by Wonder Woman, describing Lynda Carter's portrayal on TV as "the embodiment of everything that I wanted to be as a woman".

On May 25, the actress, 65, posted a touching message on Facebook where she wrote she was excited to see the character on the celluloid.

Notably, with director Patty Jenkins (Monster) at the helm, large swaths of Wonder Woman also feature color for the first time in the DCEU.

Having been briefly introduced to salivating fans a year ago in that forgettable swirl of sound and fury called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman stamps her mighty mark.

It's not the first time that Lebanon has debated whether to screen Gadot's films.

The first major superhero film to be directed by a woman could make history if predictions for it to take over $95 million (£77 million) in its first weekend at the box office turn out to be correct. Here Gadot really is a wonder too, commanding the frame during the quiet character-building scenes and making the action sequences count as her male cohorts (including Ewen Bremner as a Scottish marksman with an undiagnosed case of post-traumatic stress disorder) sometimes cower and sometimes marvel in awe as she leads the way.

Pacing isn't Wonder Woman " s strongest suit.

It is the story of Diana (Gal Gadot), princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Diana's naivety about the modern world and the war in addition to her determination to find Ares also gets a bit annoying.

"We couldn't resist. We could not resist being here today", said Jenkins. Superman and Batman have both also anchored dozens of video games ever since the days of the Atari 2600, but Wonder Woman still hasn't been afforded the same honour. Chris Pine plays Steve Trevor, the charming spy who lures Diana to London, where she discovers her superpowers. "How she was gonna go about doing it wasn't always there". I am the bearer of the torch and now I'm passing it forward to Gal and to Patty'. I'm sure if it was any other sword-swinging heroine, Snyder, even from the producer's chair, would have made sure his arch-typical bloodbath scenes were accounted for. "None of this got in the way of my enjoyment of Wonder Woman, however, a summer movie that raises the bar quite high for the months - and years - to come", he said. I thought back to this as the film took a needlessly convoluted twist that led into an ugly superhero soup climax of flashing lights and indistinguishable smashing.

"I hope that the movie will be received well", Gadot added.
