Hamiton's nearest title rival Sebastian Vettel endured a horror afternoon and will start last after suffering a turbo failure on his Ferrari.

After finishing second in the Malaysian Grand Prix, Hamilton was asked by reporters if Ferrari's pace was a big concern.

Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team driver Lewis Hamilton said that his second place was "not that satisfying", though acknowledged that "every point counts" towards the total Driver's Championship.

But while Raikkonen sympathises with his Ferrari colleague, he does not intend to alter his own plans to help Vettel.

"But there's nothing we can do, it's the way the auto is".

"You know, especially after the season I've had, I think this victory came at a very good time", said Verstappen, whose father Jos - a former Formula One driver himself - and sister Victoria were moved to tears. I have a good feeling about it. Moments before the race, mechanics wheeled Raikkonen's vehicle back to the garage but could not get it ready. "I mean, considering he started last it's not really that great to be honest".

Hamilton held on to finish second whilst Daniel Ricciardo completed the podium in third. Although Red Bull had looked strong throughout its long runs during Friday practice, Horner concedes he wasn't expecting such dominant performance in the race.

"I'm pretty certain I would have had a very good auto today", the 2007 F1 champion said.

"The auto had great balance in the second sector, I just had to stay really focused as you can lose a lot of time with the backmarkers and I nearly got taken out in turn 1 when I past two of them (backmarkers)".

In a freakish incident on the slow down lap, Vettel collided with Lance Stroll's Williams, causing significant damage to the left rear of the Ferrari. "It took Daniel a few more laps to pass Bottas, and by then the front two had made a break for it". "So I didn't make it very hard for him", Hamilton said with reference to Verstappen.

Sunday´s Grand Prix will be the 19th and last at steamy Sepang. The 18-year-old Stroll finished eighth.

He was pushed back to the pit and the race was over before it had even begun for the former world champion, who had enjoyed his maiden win at Sepang in 2003. I saw Lewis was struggling with traction, and e has more to lose in the championship so I went for it! Bottas is only 25 points behind Vettel, making it very possible for Mercedes to have another first and second place finish in the Driver Standings.

It was a remarkable race for the Frenchman who had a spin and a puncture after a tap from a Toro Rosso and later Massa's Williams sent him into the weeds.
