The Titans were in the market for a quarterback behind veteran backup Matt Cassel since Marcus Mariota suffered a hamstring injury and is uncertain for Week 5. In fact, the quarterback may not even miss a game. The Tennessee Titans (2-2) venture inside HardRock Stadium to square off against the Miami Dolphins (1-2). Like all Titans skill-position players, Walker's going-forward outlook is contingent on Marcus Mariota's health.
"Our mindset on this defense is to be dominant", said defensive end Andre Branch, who had two of the Dolphins' six sacks. Despite throwing an interception, and losing a fumble, as well as getting hit all night, he managed to complete 30 of 40 passes for 303 yards and a touchdown.
Miami badly needs to win this game.
If the Titans defense is able to rebound from a miserable performance last week against the Texans by pressuring Cutler, containing a banged up Jay Ajayi, and keeping receivers Devante Parker and Jarvis Landry mostly in check, Matt Cassel should have no problem keeping up with the Dolphins.
Mularkey insists the Titans' offense won't differ much if Cassel plays instead of Mariota. The pass defense has been giving up 285.3 yards per contest. Looking ahead, Mariota is no lock to return in time for the Titans' Week 6 contest on October 16 against the Colts, with Ian Rapoport of NFL.com having suggested that the recovery time for the hamstring injury Mariota suffered back on October 1 "estimated to be 2-4 weeks".
"P-- poor", Cutler said when asked about the offense.
"To me, this is just like in college, when I remember being at Nebraska and playing against Virginia Tech", Suh says. As a result, Miami leads Tennessee 10-0 in the second quarter.
Jones and Alonso had impactful games, as did Branch, Ndamukong Suh (one sack, very good against the run) and Lawrence Timmons.
That brought in third quarterback Tyler Thigpen to finish out the game.
En route to stunning the Patriots in Foxboro last week, the Panthers showed a renewed commitment to having Cam Newton run the ball, a good sign for his health following offseason shoulder surgery.
So the Dolphins are 2-2 while scoring only three offensive touchdowns in four games.
