It’s that time of year again for the annual Fall Family Festival.

An event that’s been occurring at Saint Leo for more than 11 years, this year’s festival will take place the weekend of October 24-26 at various locations around campus.

This year’s theme is reminiscent of the theme from 2002, the Wild West. The weekend will be kicked off on Friday by a faculty-student sports event, followed by a diverse evening of fun. Dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Guests will have the choice of either watching comedian Justin Berkman or the volley ball game against Palm Beach Atlantic University in the Marion Bowman Center. The night will be topped off with a student talent show and after party in the Student Community Center boardrooms.

The activities don’t stop there. This year’s fall performance entitled Ubu Roi, will be showing in Selby auditorium all weekend. The show opens on the October 22 and runs through the October 25. It will run Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The main event Saturday will be a Rodeo Round-Up that will include 20 live bulls with professional bull riders, various live animals, as well as “roping entertainment.” This consists of a trick roper and some other rope related activities. There will be a chuck wagon lunch that will basically be a barbeque with more of a western theme. It will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. These events will take place in the grassy field located behind the cafeteria.
After lunch and the day’s activities, dinner will be served in the cafeteria from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. holding to the barbeque theme. The evening will finish with the harvest moon festival, which will begin at 7 p.m. and last till 11 p.m.

Sunday will be left for guests to wind down. There will be Mass held on Sunday in the Student Community Center, board room C, overlooking the beautiful lake Jovita from 10:30a.m. to 11:30a.m. Brunch will also be served from 11:30 a.m. till 1:30 p.m.

I didn’t plan on going down the Fall Family Festival held in the bowl behind the café because I was sick but my roommates dragged me down there. I found it very fun and interesting, the theme the Wild West. Everyone dress in red bandanna and cowboy hats, bulls and cows all over the place. I felt like I was on a farm. They had Rodeo Round-Up that will include 20 live bulls with professional bull riders, various live animals, as well as “roping entertainment. Over all the Family festival was a great event for the students and parents and something I will attend next time.
