The Soccer season is officially over. Now it’s time to rack up all the stats, and see how the men and women did.

On the men’s side, they finished third in their conference for the regular season with a 5-3 win-loss record, and finished off the year with a record of 10-7-1; this did not come without great effort though. In the playoffs, the Lions made it all the way to the semifinals, where they fell to University of Tampa 4-1. Tampa then moved on to the Championships from there.

As for awards, Senior Eusebio Montoya was named on the Sunshine State Conference first team, and was also put on the all conference tournament first team. In his career at Saint Leo, Montoya has scored 46 goals, added 23 assists, and dug up 115 points in 62 games. Montoya wrapped up his senior year with 14 goals and 30 points. Also, Sophomore Jonothan Glenn was named second team all conference. Glenn, coming off a 2007 season where he was awarded Freshman of the Year honors, Played in 17 games this season where he scored 11 goals and added three assists. The Trinidad & Tobago native was second on the team in scoring, behind Montoya for the season’s top scorer.

As for the women, they also ended the regular season with a conference record of 5-3 but ended the year with a record of 15-5-2. The girl’s were pulled out of the playoffs, by losing to none other than University of Tampa in the first round of the playoffs, with a score of three to two.

The women’s season came with great accomplishment, as they made their way to the top 25 National NCAA spot, being ranked number 25. The only other team that is nationally ranked in the SSC is the Rollins College Tars, being ranked number six in the nation.

Awards for the women came with junior Hannah Beard, and senior Lauren Hudson, as both were named to the 2008 Daktronics All-South Region women’s soccer team. Beard was also awarded Sunshine State Conference player of the year. Beard was ranked first in the SSC in points with 44, and was tied for first in assists with 12. Beard is also in the top-10 in the nation in scoring (17th) and assists (12th). As for Hudson, she was named to the second team Sunshine State all conference. Hudson had a humongous year in goal for the Lions. The four-year starter played for over 1815 minutes in goal and only let in 13 goals in 20 games. She has almost every Saint Leo goalkeeping record, including one she set this year. The Odessa, Fla. native posted five-straight shutouts in 535 minutes and 10 clean sheets this season
