Are they really that convenient?

Walking, some find it convenient, and some don’t. Although the Marmion-Snyder mile walk to main campus isn’t that long, some find it inconvenient. Another inconvenience brought up when mentioning Marmion-Snyder is the controversy of having your friends being split up.

As you all know, Marmion-Snyder isn’t the only dorm that houses freshman. Both Henderson and Benoit house freshman as well, and they are a lot closer to campus. One of the most important things freshman rely on their first year of college is their friends. This can be quite complicated when your closest friends live in Marmion- Snyder and you live in Henderson or Benoit, or the other way around. If you’re the only one of your friends that lives in Marmion-Snyder, no one wants to drive up just to come get you. Thus, you resort to walking.

As we all know, most people don’t like to walk. Now you find a balance. You then find yourself spending nights in dorms that aren’t yours. Some of our friends thought that we lived in Marmion because we spent more time in Marmion than Henderson. No one believed us until we showed them our IDs wouldn’t open the Marmion-Snyder door and that our keys were a different shape than theirs.
As you can see, some freshmen spend more time in other dorms than they do in their own. This can also be a good way to make friends. The Lion’s Den, located in Marmion-Snyder, is where we met one of our best friends, Ashleigh. If we hadn’t had traveled up there all the time, we would’ve missed out on meeting her.

The atmosphere in Marmion-Snyder is very welcoming, but if you’re placed in Henderson or Benoit you don’t know that unless you have friends who live in Marmion-Snyder. You miss out on the activities that they have and the experience you can share with your friends. Whenever we look out of my door, there are always people in the hallway. It’s never empty. There is always something going on. If it’s not a campus activity, it’s a video game in someone’s dorm room. So as you can see, Henderson and Benoit can be very convenient at times, their convenience depends on you.

I don’t mean to beat a dead horse but I am concerned about the safety of female students crossing the bridge early in the morning or late at night.
I hope local police and SLU security judiciously watch the bridge at dusk and dawn. Throughout my four years at SLC I always considered the Marmion-Snyder area especially pretty.
