Senior Spotlight: Leo Nogueira

Leo Nogueira

Leo was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, majoring in Business Administration, hopes to stay in the US and attend graduate school.  He wants to stay involved in soccer with hopes to getting a job as an assistant coach at a Division I university.  His long term goals involve moving internationally in Europe or Australia.

The defensive midfielder’s first year with the lions, Leo started seven games and earned his first career goal with an assist against Sunshine State Conference opponent Nova Southeastern University on 9/30/06.

He scored four goals and had two assists in his sophomore year and scoring nail biting goals in back-to back games against opponents West Florida and Montevallo.

During his junior year, Leo was nominated player of the week and led the lions on the field by starting nine games at midfielder’s position with team achievements of beating the number one team in the nation of Division II, University of Tampa.

Already in his senior year, Leo made an assist with teammate Daniel Asher against Eckerd College Tritons (9/29/09) and made big impacts with scoring the only goal for the night during a match against Florida Tech (10/3/09).

Leo told the Lions’ Pride that one of his greatest achievements with SLU soccer, “I got to play soccer with great players from every part of the world, with me and against me.  Sunshine State Conference is the best conference for Division II for soccer, so it was a great achievement for me to play among these players.”
